Our Allotment

The Corner House is fortunate to have acquired a good sized allotment just a short walk away.  This enables us to produce fresh, organically grown food that is used to support The Good Food Corner and the ethos of healthy eating.

We encourage everyone to get involved in helping out at the allotment, as it can provide a number of benefits:

  • The chance to learn where food comes from and how fruit and vegetables are grown.
  • A sense of satisfaction and achievement from growing something from seed.
  • An opportunity to spend time outside in a natural environment.
  • Exercise – particularly when digging and weeding!
  • Teamwork – working with each other to achieve success.
  • As a great stress busting tool.  Research has shown that spending time on an allotment can lead to a drop in the stress hormone  cortisol (source: The Telegraph 23/11/10).
  • Learning how to manage and maintain your own garden or allotment.

Produce that we have successfully grown includes strawberries, rhubarb, potatoes, tomatoes, mange-tout, spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, pumpkin, and butternut squash.

We are always looking for volunteers to help out with maintaining and developing the allotment. If interested, please call Alan on 01273 871575 or email
